About

My Story

Gerald Mackrell is a machine tool fitter by trade who spent much of his working life in the steel industry, a world shaped by precision, endurance, and hard physical labor. His professional journey grounded him firmly in the practical realities of life, while quietly nurturing a deep curiosity about its deeper meaning. Retirement marked not an ending, but a beginning—one that opened space for reflection, faith, and unexpected creativity.

Writing, as Mackrell describes it, began “for his own amazement.” What started as a personal reflection soon evolved into published work, with his first book released in 2008. He continued to write regularly for church bulletins, using simple language to explore complex spiritual truths. His writing reflects a lifelong dialogue between the physical world he knew so well and the unseen spiritual reality he believes gives life its purpose.

In Know, Trust, Abandon, Mackrell brings together decades of lived experience, faith, and contemplation to examine humanity’s journey from doubt to surrender. Drawing on scripture, personal insight, and universal questions about life, free will, and redemption, he invites readers to look beyond the material and rediscover the spiritual core of their existence. His work speaks not as theology from a pulpit, but as faith lived, questioned, and ultimately embraced.
